The first tracking figures are in for two of early Fall’s biggest films and the results look very promising.
Variety reports that the newest “The Conjuring” spin-off, “The Nun,” looks set to rake in a stellar opening. Estimates have the film taking in at least $32 million and likely closer to $40 million across its first three days in the first weekend of September.
Films in this series have tight budgets in the sub-$20 million range (bar “The Conjuring 2”) so it should be well on its way to profit quickly.
In addition, long-range tracking at Pro Box-Office for the not quite “Spider-Man” spin-off “Venom” is tracking for an opening anywhere in the $65 million range in its first three days in early October.
Both are by far the biggest openers of the period, the next nearest ones being “A Star Is Born” and “The Predator” which both look to be headed for $30 million openings each in their respective weekends. A new TV spot for “The Nun” is also out and can be viewed below:
