Van Damme Stars In “Kickboxer” Remake

A quarter century on from its release, Radar Films’ remake of 1989’s “Kickboxer” is getting a familiar face – the original’s star and Belgian martial arts icon Jean Claude Van Damme.

The original film starred Van Damme as Kurt Sloane, the cornerman for his talented martial artist brother Eric. The pair travel to Thailand where the brother is crippled at the hands of the country’s undefeated champion Tong Po. Vowing to avenge him, Kurt seeks the help of Xian Chow – a famous trainer living in a remote part of the country.

In the new version, Van Damme will take on the Xian Chow role with newcomer Alain Moussi taking on the Kurt Sloane role. Also starring are former UFC champion Georges St Pierre in the Eric role and Dave Bautista as Tong Po.

Van Damme replaces Tony Jaa who was originally slated to play the remake’s Master Chow. Ted Field, Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi are producing and filming begins this week in New Orleans and Thailand.
