The German Defense Ministry has barred the makers of United Artists “Valkyrie” from filming at German military sites reports the trades.
The Bryan Singer-directed “Valkyrie” tells the story of resistance hero Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who led an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944 using a bomb in a briefcase, wounding the dictator.
The official reasoning for the ban is due to Tom Cruise’s affiliation with the Church of Scientology. UA representatives however seem adamant that the film will still be shot in Germany – albeit in potentially alternate locations.
Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander wrote the script, and shooting is scheduled to start mid-July.
