Val Kilmer Returns For “Top Gun 2”

Val Kilmer has revealed that he’s set to reprise his role of ‘Iceman’ in the sequel to the fighter jet action thriller “Top Gun”.

The project has been gestating for years and hit a stumbling block a few years ago when director Tony Scott tragically passed away. The project now has new life again in the wake of a deal between producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount Pictures, with Justin Marks having been hired to write the script.

The story is still supposed to deal pilots struggling to remain relevant in a world when wars can be fought by drones. Cruise has long been linked (but not officially attached), with Kilmer seemingly the next actor to hop onboard. Kilmer made the announcement through his Facebook page, saying he was offered the film and quickly accepted:

Jerry Bruckheimer struck a new deal at Paramount Pictures, Top Gun 2 was part of the deal, and last year

Now it seems like the project is moving along as Val Kilmer took to Facebook last night to reveal that he’s been offered the chance to reprise his role as Iceman in the sequel, and he quickly accepted.

There was some confusion with that update as people thought Gene Hackman and Francis Ford Coppola might be a part of the project. Kilmer cleared that up, saying that those were examples of the kinds of projects that score an immediate ‘yes’ without needing serious consideration.

No word as to when the project might go into production as of yet.
