Several years after receiving a straight to series order, and then subsequently being scrapped, the U.S. remake of the cult British series “Utopia” is back on – this time at Amazon Studios.
Amazon Studios has reportedly handed out a nine-episode, straight-to-series order for the project which was originally set up at HBO with David Fincher and “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn.
The story revolves around a group of young adults who meet online and are mercilessly hunted by a shadowy deep state organization.
After they come into possession of a near-mythical2 cult underground graphic novel, they discover the conspiracy theories in the comic’s pages may actually be real and are forced to save the world.
Fincher is no longer involved, but Flynn is doubling down on the project – making this the first project in a new overall deal she has just signed with Amazon. Flynn will serve as executive producer and showrunner and be credited as the lone creator.
Jessica Rhoades, Sharon Hall, Karen Wilson, Kelly and Diederick Santer will also executive produce. A premiere date has not yet been determined.
