USA Network has renewed its much buzzed about drama series “Mr. Robot” for a third season to air in 2017. The news comes as the show is midway through its second-season run.
The announcement comes at an interesting time. The series was a critical and commercial breakout hit in its first year, and was recently nominated for six Emmys. However, both the reviews and ratings for the second season have waned – hitting new lows, especially in Live+Same Day viewing.
Even with the modest overall ratings, it remains a flagship show for USA which is trying to rebrand itself with a hipper and younger appeal. Rami Malek stars in the series as a cyber-security engineer who becomes involved in the underground hacker group fsociety after being recruited by their leader (Christian Slater).
