Updates On Marvel’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Agent Carter”

Marvel’s TV-related Comic Con panel is finishing up with some news regarding its two shows on ABC. First there’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” which announced several new characters that are set to make an appearance in the second season.

The previously announced Lucy Lawless is confirmed to be playing veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabelle Hartley. Joining her this season will be Nick Blood as Lance Hunter who has been reimagined from the comics as a mercenary in this interpretation whom Coulson turns to for help.

Finally there’s “Dollhouse” actor Reed Diamond who has been cast the big bad of the season – Daniel Whitehall (aka. The Kraken). In the comics, Whitehall is a legendary HYDRA agent who spent decades training the group’s best talent.

The biggest news though came through a video with Patton Oswalt in character as Agent Koenig. The video suggests super heroine Mockingbird will appear this year.

Meanwhile the new “Agent Carter” series will probably have a familiar feel. Turns out the directors involved with both the “Captain America” films are coming back to helm episodes of the new show.

Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed this year’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will direct both the second and third episode of the eight episode first season. “Captain America: The First Avenger” helmer Joe Johnston is set to direct the fourth episode.

The trio join Louis D’Esposito, the director of the “Agent Carter” one-shot, who will be helming the pilot episode and executive producing. D’Esposito was also asked if Dominic Cooper would return to which he smiled and replied “It would be wonderful if that could happen”.
