“Unknown” and “House of Wax” director Jaume Collet-Serra is making a deal to direct “Red Circle” for Working Title Films says Deadline.
A remake of Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1970 crime thriller “Le Cercle Rouge”, the original followed a freshly released aristocratic thief, an escaped murderer and an ex-police sniper teaming for a jewel heist while a revenge-seeking mob boss, a nightclub owner and a pimp try trap them.
The remake, with a script penned by Steven Knight (“Eastern Promises”), moves the action to Hong Kong. John Woo, Johnnie To and John Hillcoat were all previously linked as potential directors while at one point Liam Neeson, Orlando Bloom, Tim Roth and Chow Yun-Fat were attached to star.
Collet-Serra was recently announced as the director of “Harker”, a re-imagining of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” which Leonardo DiCaprio will produce.
