Universal’s “In The Heights” Gets New Scribe

Marc Klein (“Serendipity,” “A Good Year”) has been hired to pen a new draft of the script for the film adaptation of Tony-winning Broadway hit “In the Heights” for Universal Pictures reports Variety.

The story follows a bodega owner who inherits lottery winnings which he plans to use to retire to the Dominican Republic. He’s soon conflicted about leaving his Washington Heights neighbourhood behind.

Original show writer Quiara Alegria Hudes penned the previous adaptation. Klein will work with creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on the script.

Kenny Ortega (“High School Musical”) directs the film which begins shooting this August in New York City.
