Universal Pictures and Studio 37 are teaming for French-language film, based on the life of iconic singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg according to the trades.
Graphic novelist Joann Sfar penned the screenplay and makes his directorial debut on the project in which Eric Elmosnino plays the singer famous not only for such hits as “Je t’aime … moi non plus” and “Les sucettes” but his high-profile lovelife.
French model Laetitia Casta will play Brigitte Bardot, Mylene Jampanoi plays Bambou, and Anna Mouglalis will play French singer Juliette Greco who collaborated with Gainsbourg for many years.
The story traces Gainsbourg from his youth growing up in 1940s Nazi-occupied Paris through to his transformation into the hard-living showman. Gainsbourg died in 1991 at age 62.
Marc du Pontavice and Didier Lupfer are producing. A thirteen-week shoot kicks off Janaury 19th in Paris with a 2010 release planned.
