The long in development cinematic reboot “Battlestar Galactica” franchise has picked up steam with “Transcendence” scribe Jack Paglen having signed on to write the screenplay.
Universal Pictures is planning a “complete reimagining of the story” for the upcoming movie, which means Paglen is likely starting over from scratch.
Filmmaker Bryan Singer was attached to direct a ‘Galactica’ film back in 2009 but the new report makes no mention of his involvement. Original series creator Glen Larson does remain onboard as producer.
This would mark the third version of the story about the last of humanity of the Twelve Colonies escaping the robot Cylons and searching for their mythical ancient homeland of Earth.
The story originated with the late 1970s series and became an acclaimed mini-series and four season series for Syfy which ran from 2003 to 2009.
Paglen is also committed to Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” sequel at Fox which begins production this fall.
