Universal Pictures is developing the Madonna biopic “Blonde Ambition” following their scoring the rights to Elyse Hollander’s script about the creation of Madonna’s self-titled debut album.
The script, which led the 2016 version of the Black List, details the singers’ efforts in the early 1980s in New York City to get her first album released while navigating fame, romance, and the dismissive attitude of the music industry.
That album, which sold ten million copies, included such early iconic songs as “Holiday,” “Borderline,” and “Lucky Star”. A year later came the “Like a Virgin” album which more than doubled that and cemented her as a music force that still resonates today.
Brett Ratner, Michael De Luca and John Zaozirny will produce. Hollander previously worked as an assistant to “Birdman” and “The Revenant” director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
