Universal Pictures has come onboard the upcoming film adaptation of the classic British sitcom “Dad’s Army” with the full cast list being revealed today.
Set in a fictional south-coast English town in 1944, the story follows the Home Guard platoon, a group of local volunteers in the sleepy town of Walmington-on-Sea who have been ruled ineligible for military service due to advanced age or extenuating circumstances.
Glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, while at the same time MI5 discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea, sparking rumours of a spy.
As previously announced, Toby Jones will play the pompous and diminutive Captain Mainwaring while Bill Nighy is set as the dry Sergeant Wilson. Joining them are Catherine Zeta Jones as journalist Rose Winters, Tom Courtenay as Corporal Jones, Michael Gambon as Godfrey, Blake Harrison as Pike, Danny Mays as Walker and Bill Paterson as Fraser.
Also onboard are the likes of Sarah Lancashire, Alison Steadman, Mark Gatiss and Annette Crosbie. “Johnny English Reborn” director Oliver Parker and scribe Hamish McColl serve in the same capacities on this film which begins filming this month in Yorkshire. Damian Jones (“The Iron Lady”) is producing.
