Universal Dumps Its Streisand “Gypsy” Film

Universal’s upcoming film adaptation of the classic musical “Gypsy,” which has Barbra Streisand attached to star as the iconic Momma Rose, has suffered a setback.

The studio has reportedly taken a hard look at the musical and put it into turnaround, leaving it up to Streisand and producer Joel Silver to find another backer for the picture.

Robert Luketic (“Legally Blonde”) has been attached to direct from a script by “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes along with the blessing of the late Arthur Laurents.
