Universal Pictures has dropped plans for its $37 million film adaptation of the acclaimed musical “In the Heights” reports Deadline.
The studio picked up the project back in 2008 with the show’s book writer Quiara Alegria Hudes penning the script. Kenny Ortega (“This Is It,” “High School Musical”) was attached to direct.
Show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda was to play the lead role with well known Latin talent in supporting roles. However plans for the supporting cast didn’t pan out so Miranda will try and shop the project elsewhere.
