Universal Attends “School,” Nabs “Rosaline”

Universal Pictures has scored the rights to Soman Chainani’s just released novel “The School For Good And Evil”. Joe Roth will produce.

The first in a proposed trilogy, the story follows two girls who are kidnapped from their homes and sent to The School for Good and Evil, where they are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains, princesses and witches.

The studio has also begun negotiations to pick up “Rosaline,” the comedic revisionist take on “Romeo & Juliet” that was previously setup at Fox 2000.

The story set in the classic period of the play and told from the viewpoint of Rosaline, Romeo’s first love, whom he dumps for her cousin, Juliet. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (“500 Days of Summer”) penned the script, while Shawn Levy is producing.
