Universal Pictures has landed the movie rights to popular children’s books series “Where’s Waldo?” (a.k.a. “Where’s Wally?”) says The Hollywood Reporter.
The studio plans to turn the books, which require the reader to find the red-and-white shirted young man hidden somewhere in a crowd of people on every double-page spread, into a live-action family film.
The property was previously setup at Paramount and Nickelodeon where John Schultz was attached to direct. That project had a now 30-year-old Waldo activate a malfunctioning time machine and ends up traveling through history.
No word on what this new version will use as a story, or if it will include the character’s nemesis Odlaw. Chris Meledandri will produce.
