“Deadpool 2” and “Hobbs & Shaw” director David Leitch is reportedly looking to direct an adaptation of the comic “Undying Love” as his next project for Studio 8.
Set in modern day Hong Kong, the project is a Chinese folklore reinvention of vampire lore and dubbed “an action-adventure story set for the ages”. It follows an ex-soldier who falls for a beautiful Chinese woman who is a vampire. The only way to cure her is to kill her maker – one of the most powerful vamps in history.
Tommy Wirkola penned the script while Kelly McCormick and Stephen L’Heureux produce. Joe Carnahan and Alex Aja were attached to previous incarnations of the project.
Also today, Universal Pictures has optioned film rights to Kim Liggett’s novel “The Grace Year” and have set Elizabeth Banks (“Charlie’s Angeles”) to direct. Banks and Max Handelman will also produce.
The story explores the complex and sometimes twisted relationships between girls, the women they eventually become, and the difficult decisions they make in between.
