The feud that threatens to destabilise the “Fast and the Furious” franchise took another turn today as Tyrese Gibson has issued an ultimatum online regarding co-star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – effectively stating “either he goes, or I do”.
In a new post on his Instagram account, Tyrese says that if The Rock appears in the upcoming ninth film in the series, then Tyrese won’t return as Roman Pierce. Tyrese has called out The Rock on several occasions on social media over the recently announced spin-off film focused on Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters.
That spin-off reveal came with the announcement that the ninth film in the series had been delayed by nearly a year, with “Fast 9” now slated for 2020. Gibson has an obvious passion for the series and is a well liked comic relief element within it, but has seemingly seen Johnson’s decision as an act of betrayal and has lashed out at him.
Johnson of course got the feud talk rolling back during production on the eighth film with his own uncharacteristically angry social media postings criticising some of his male co-stars (not by name though), which lead to talk of a major feud between Vin Diesel and The Rock.
Diesel has since been trying to reassure fans the series is in good hands and recently confirmed director Justin Lin and Jordana Brewster are returning to the fold. Here’s Gibson’s post in full:
