Multi-hyphenate Tyler Perry is set to star in “I, Alex Cross”, a reboot of the franchise based on James Patterson’s novel series reports Deadline.
In the book series, Alex Cross is a forensic psychologist who hunts down various killers. Morgan Freeman played the role twice in 1997’s well-regarded “Kiss the Girls” and 2001’s less well-received “Along Came a Spider”.
Perry is best known for writing and directing his own films, this would mark his first role in a film that he didn’t write outside of his cameo in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”.
Rob Cohen (“The Fast and the Furious,” “XXX”) is said to be attached to direct this version which Idris Elba (“The Wire,” “Rocknrolla”) was originally slated to star in and David Twohy (“Pitch Black,” “Below”) was to direct.
