Certain roles are the kind that anyone who plays them automatically joins a short but exclusive list of actors in that particular role – James Bond, Batman, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, The Doctor, etc.
One such recent addition is “Teen Wolf” and “Everybody Wants Some” hunk Tyler Hoechlin who is making the jump to The CW’s “Supergirl” series where he’ll take on the role of Superman. Superman was seen in the distance or in mute silhouette in the first season, but for the second season he’ll now have an upgrade with Hoechlin taking on the role for at least two episodes of the upcoming season.
Speaking with Moviefone, the actor confirmed that we’ll not only see Superman but also his Clark Kent persona, the actor saying you can’t really play one without the other. Talking about the challenge of taking on the role, he says:
“It’s definitely incredibly humbling and flattering to even be given the chance to do it. And I think, I’m just going to do as much as I can to see how to bring the true spirit of the character to the show… I’m excited to just kind of look at it from doing it with a clean slate and not trying to replicate or duplicate anything that’s been done, but just being honest to the story and how they’re writing him.”
In related news, Kevin Smith has spoken about the possibility of directing an episode of the show’s second season on his recent Fat Man on Batman podcast. He says: “I’ll go there in a heartbeat if they’re like ‘Hey man, you want to come up?’ … I’ve already heard whispers of Supergirl as well. I would love to go up there, especially now that it’s on CW so you get to cross-reference the other shows.”
Also, Ian Gomez (“Cougar Town”) has signed on to play Snapper Carr in a recurring role says EW. Carr will be the new editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine and likely fill in for Calista Flockhart’s presence as the actress will apparently only serve in a recurring capacity in the new season.
The second season premiere of “Supergirl” airs on October 10th.
