Twohy Talks “Perfect Getaway” Release

He may not be a household name like Nolan, Spielberg or Jackson but David Twohy has been churning out a steady release of excellent sci-fi genre fare since the mid-90’s.

While 2004’s “The Chronicles of Riddick” never really caught on, his previous efforts like 1996’s “The Arrival”, 2000’s “Pitch Black,” and 2002’s “Below” are still well regarded today.

Thus quite a few of us have been looking forward to “A Perfect Getaway”, his first film in five years. Originally scheduled to release this week, there’s been a lot of wonder as to why no marketing for the film has been seen so far.

This week on his official blog, the director explained the situation – Universal screened the film and liked it so much they made a successful bit to pick up the distribution rights from MGM and are planning a late Summer release.

“The date that works for Uni schedule is now sometime in August, possibly August 14th… I’ll even caveat that, if only because movies frequently change release dates these days. Sometimes it’s a reflection of the movie itself, sometimes it’s simply about the musical chairs that all studios play with their releases. So don’t get too hung up about it. I don’t.”

Timothy Olyphant, Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn and Marley Shelton star in the thriller about a couple on their honeymoon who find themselves stalked by a pair of killers.

There’s also the first two photos from the film of Jovovich and Kiele Sanchez.
