The other week came great news – that David Lynch would not only be involved in Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” revival, but that the original order had been expanded.
It was touch and go there for a while with Lynch seemingly dropping out with the premium cable network over financial issues regarding the budget of the event series. There was some back and forth in the press but now it appears to have all worked out.
Today comes further details from Welcome to Twin Peaks which has revealed the answer to one question that immediately popped up following the announcement of Lynch’s return – how many episodes will we get?
The original order was for nine episodes, all directed by Lynch, but no new count number was mentioned in Showtime’s statement the other week which only said that the original order had been expanded upon.
The new report claims that we’re not getting ten, twelve or even thirteen episodes but rather eighteen episodes – a full doubling of the original order. On top of that, ALL eighteen of these episodes are to be directed by Lynch, whilst Angelo Badalamenti is composing brand new music for the series.
The news reportedly comes from the mouths of actresses Sherilyn Fenn and Sheryl Lee during a Twin Peaks panel at Crypticon in Seattle. The pair are involved in the new series which will also see the original Double R Diner set restored for filming.
Shooting aims to begin in September ahead of a 2016 premiere.
