TV News: Voltron, Dexter, Rubicon

“Thundercats” isn’t the only 80’s cartoon making a comeback as Nicktoons has announced development of a 26 half-hour episodes first season of the new animated series “Voltron Force” reports Variety.

World Event Productions and Classic Media will produce this relaunch of the brand which will follow the same story of five space explorers who pilot robotic lions that combine to form Voltron, an invincible guardian sworn to defend the Universe.

The pair have been trying to develop a live-action film based on the property but have been having difficulty getting it to work. Instead the focus has shifted to the series and a new toy line from Mattel which will both launch next year to time with the property’s 25th anniversary.

Julia Stiles has officially joined the cast of the Showtime series. Stiles will appear in ten episodes in the upcoming fifth season as a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in the wake of his wife’s death last year.

Filming kicks off this month with the new season premiering in the Fall.

AMC will air a sneak preview of its new New York-based government intelligence agency thriller series right after Sunday’s “Breaking Bad” finale.

Miranda Richardson, Dallas Roberts and James Badge Dale star in the series which premieres later this Summer.
