The fourth “Underbelly” series this year jumps back in time to 1927. In that year New South Wales State Parliament passed three legal acts – prohibiting the sale of cocaine by chemists, criminalising handguns and introducing six o’clock closing for public bars. Combined with harder crackdowns on prostitution and street gambling, organised crime in the city saw a massive upsurge.
With guns banned, razors became the weapon of choice amongst Sydney gangsters with over five hundred slashings taking place during the heyday of intensive razor gang criminal activity. Vice queens Kate Leigh and Tilly Devine began open warfare in 1929 and this series will explore that period. This week Nine revealed two new promo trailers, the first is below while the second concentrates a bit more on the sex.
Jason Sudeikis has scored a recurring role in the third season of HBO’s “Eastbound and Down”; Gwendoline Christie has landed the pivotal role of Brienne in the second season of the epic fantasy series “Game of Thrones”‘; and Nick Stahl has joined Showtime’s upcoming comedy series “House of Lies”.
