The Mysterious Benedict Society
Hulu is closing deals for a straight-to-series order for Sonar Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV’s adventure drama “The Mysterious Benedict Society” based on the best-selling young adult novel by Trenton Lee Stewart. Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer serve as showrunners.

Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay adapt the script about four gifted orphans who are recruited by an eccentric, benefactor to go on a secret mission. Placed undercover at a boarding school known as The Institute, they must foil a nefarious plot with global ramifications, while creating a new sort of family along the way. [Source: Deadline]

Fleishman Is in Trouble
FX has begun development of a limited series adaptation of Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s bestselling novel “Fleishman Is in Trouble”. Brodesser-Akner is on board to write and executive produce Sarah Timberman, Susannah Grant and Carl Beverly,

The story centers on the recently separated Toby Fleishman whose ex-wife drops off their kids in the middle of the night and suddenly disappears without reason or explanation. ABC Signature Studios will produce. [Source: The Wrap]

Untitled Showtime Lakers Project
Newcomer Quincy Isaiah and ex-UC Berkeley basketball captain Solomon Hughes have been cast as Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, respectively, in Adam McKay‘s Showtime-era Lakers drama pilot for HBO.

John C. Reilly is set to star as Lakers owner Jerry Buss, the self-made millionaire who transformed the Lakers into a basketball dynasty, sometimes at the expense of those closest to him. Jason Clarke will co-star as Jerry West. The HBO series is based on Jeff Pearlman‘s non-fiction book which chronicled the personal and professional lives of the team. [Source: The Live Feed]

Former “Better Call Saul” star Michael McKean is joining the HBO Max streaming service’s comedy pilot “Delilah”. McKean plays a successful car dealer who’s dealing with the death of his wife, his bickering grown children and the arrival of Delilah (Jessica Rothe), a young woman who claims to be his daughter. The series is set to debut in spring 2020. Kirker Butler, Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan are penning the script. [Source: The Live Feed]

The Politician
Netflix has released three posters for its new dark satire series “The Politician,” the first series of their mega-million dollar deal with “American Horror Story” and “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy. Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch and more star in the show which premieres September 27th.

The story follows Santa Barbara student Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) who since the age of seven has wanted to be the President of the United States. But to get there, he must first navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School.
