A&E has ordered its remake of the French zombie drama “The Returned” (aka. “Les Revenants”) straight to series with a ten-episode, first season pickup. Carlton Cuse (“Bates Motel”) and Raelle Tucker (“True Blood”) will oversee production with casting to begin immediately ahead of filming this Summer.
The Emmy-winning original is set in a mountain town where several local people who have long been presumed dead suddenly reappear. As families are reunited and strange phenomena begin to occur, the lives of those who were left behind are challenged on a physical and emotional level. [Source: The Live Feed]
John Singleton has setup the 1980s Los Angeles-set drama series “Snowfall” at Showtime and will direct and co-write the project. The series explores the beginnings of the city’s crack cocaine epidemic following the Iran-Contra affair.
The story will unfold through the eyes of a young black kid from Compton, a Mexican wrestler and a CIA agent charged with running money to the Contras. [Source: Deadline]
Starz has greenlit two seasons of the original live-action scripted comedy “Blunt Talk” from producers Seth MacFarlane, Jonathan Ames and Patrick Stewart. The twenty-episode pickup will be divided between two seasons of ten each and will air in 2015.
Stewart plays Walter Blunt, a well-intentioned but mostly misguided British transplant intent on conquering the world of American cable news through his nightly interview show. A Spy Among Friends
Lionsgate has optioned TV rights to Ben Macintyre’s best-selling biography “A Spy Among Friends” which Bill Broyles (“Flags of our Fathers”) will adapt.
The book explores Kim Philby, Britain’s counterintelligence head who was part of the infamous ‘Cambridge Five’ – a spy ring secretly working for the Soviets during the Cold War. The account focuses on his betrayals of his two closest friends – MI6’s Nicholas Elliott and CIA chief James Jesus Angleton. [Source: Deadline]
