Joel Edgerton has signed on for a role in the Barry Jenkins-directed Amazon series “The Underground Railroad”. Edgerton will play the part of slavecatcher Ridgeway and joins previously announced cast members Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, and Aaron Pierre.
The series chronicles young Cora’s (Mbedu) journey as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. After escaping her Georgia plantation for the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad full of engineers and conductors, and a secret network of tracks and tunnels beneath the Southern soil. The CW has announced six new series will premiere on the network this summer – reality series “The Big Stage” on June 7th, UK cop show “Bulletproof,” sci-fi action series “Pandora,” comedy game show “Hypnotize Me,” investigatory documentary series “Mysteries Decoded,” and athlete documentary profile series “Red Bull Peaking”.
The six join five returning shows over the Summer including “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” on June 17th, “Masters of Illusion” on June 7th, “The Outpost” on July 11th and “Burden of Truth” on June 2nd. [Source: The CW]
Last Man Standing
FOX has renewed the Tim Allen comedy “Last Man Standing” for the eighth season overall and second at the network since they picked it up after ABC cancelled it. The series stars Tim Allen as Mike Baxter, a happily married father of three daughters, who finds himself the odd man out as he tries to maintain his manliness in a home dominated by women. Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Molly McCook, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Jet Jurgenson, Jonathan Adams and Hector Elizondo co-star. [Source: Variety].
20th Century Fox TV is developing the animated comedy “Gerald’s World” from producer and actor Dillon Francis and writer Spencer Porter. The story is based on fan-favorite character Gerald, Francis’ pinata best friend who is either the second coming of the Great Gatsby, Tyler Durden, or both. [Source: Deadline].
CBS All Access has released the trailer for the second season of CBS All Access’ period drama “Strange Angel” which returns on June 13th. The story explores the bizarre true story of Jack Parsons, a CalTech scientist and key figure in US rocketry who also held riotous sex magic rituals as a devotee to Aleister Crowley’s religion. In season two, the US is fully engaged in World War II, transforming the Parsons rocketry work into a lucrative business and further entrenching him in the military-industrial complex.
