Locke and Key
Darby Stanchfield (“Scandal”) has signed on for the lead role in Netflix’s TV series adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic “Locke & Key”. Stanchfield will play Nina Locke, a house renovator and mother of three kids who moves her family to Massachusetts after the gruesome murder of her husband.
In their new house, the three kids discover a set of magical keys that give them supernatural powers – along with a demon who will stop at nothing to obtain those keys. Carlton Cuse executive produces the series which has a ten episode order. [Source: TV Line]
The Red Line
The first trailer is out for Ava DuVernay and Greg Berlanti’s eight-episode event series “The Red Line” which follows the lives of three Chicago families in the wake of a police shooting of an unarmed black man. Noah Wyle leads the cast as the husband of the victim who grieves his death with his adopted daughter.
The cop behind the shooting and a woman running for city alderman also figure into the action. The series will air in two-hour blocks over four consecutive Sundays, beginning in late April this year.
Brenda Song (“Pure Genius”) and Lex Scott Davis (“Superfly”) are set for lead roles opposite Kat Dennings in Hulu’s ten-episode comedy series “Dollface” starring and executive produced by Dennings. Jordan Weiss (“Harley Quinn”) pens the series while Margot Robbie and Brett Hedblom produce and filming begins this year.
Dennings plays a young woman who, after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend, must deal with her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women and rekindle the female friendships she left behind. [Source: Deadline]
Hulu has released the first teaser for the comedy series “Shrill” based on the novel of the same name and starring SNL alum Aidy Bryant. Julia Sweeney, Lolly Adefope, Luka Jones, Ian Owens and John Cameron Mitchell co-star in the show which premieres March 15th.
Bryant plays Annie, a fat young woman who wants to change her life, but not her body. Annie is trying to start her career while juggling bad boyfriends, a sick parent, and a perfectionist boss. Ali Rushfield will serve as the series showrunner.
Diary of a Female President
Disney+ has handed out a straight-to-series order for “Diary of a Female President”. Robin Shorr (“The Carmichael Show”) will serve as showrunner on the series which hails from CBS Television Studios.
“Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez executive produces while Ilana Pena (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) created and pens the ten-episode series told through the narration of a twelve-year-old Cuban-American girl’s diary as she navigates the ups and downs of middle school and her journey to becoming the future president of the United States. The BBC has premiered a trailer for “MotherFatherSon,” a new series that marks Richard Gere’s first role for the small screen in decades. Helen McCrory co-stars as his wife while Sarah Lancashire, Sinead Cusack, Danny Sapani, Joseph Mawle and Ciaran Hinds also star.
In the series, Gere plays a newspaper and media baron who has succession plans in place in the form of his son Caden (Billy Howle), but events take an unexpected turn as a family crisis hits – one with far-reaching implications. Tom Rob Smith penned the series.
