Lucy Hale (“Pretty Little Liars,” “Truth or Dare”) has been cast in the title role in the upcoming pilot episode of The CW’s “Riverdale” musical dramedy spin-off “Katy Keene”. Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beauchamp, and Julia Chan co-star.
The story follows the lives of four aspiring artists, including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene, as they chase dreams in New York City and try to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio. Maggie Kiley will direct the pilot. [Source: Variety]
Celebrity Grand Prix
Tyrese Gibson (“2 Fast 2 Furious”) will team with Mark Burnett and MGM Television to produce reality series “Celebrity Grand Prix” which pits famous faces against one another on the racetrack. “Silicon Valley” co-creator Mike Judge has closed a new, rich two-year overall deal extension with the premium cable network HBO which includes production commitments for a pair of two new comedies: “QualityLand” and “A5”. The overall deal includes all forms of TV, save for animation.
“QualityLand,” an follows the story of humanity’s struggle against the tyranny of convenience and is based on the book by Marc-Uwe Kling. “A5” is a limited series centered on a bioengineer who discovers the gene that makes a person an asshole. The Singapore Grip
David Morrissey (“The Walking Dead”), Luke Treadway (“Ordeal By Innocence”) and Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”) have been cast in the ITV drama “The Singapore Grip,” an adaptation of the J.G. Farrell novel from Oscar-winning screenwriter and playwright Christopher Hampton. The story is set during World War II and follows a British family living in Singapore at the time of the Japanese invasion. Jane Horrocks, Colm Meaney, Elizabeth Tan and Georgia Blizzard co-star. HBO has officially announced a May 6th premiere date for their upcoming five-part historical drama miniseries “Chernobyl” starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Watson. The story will be based on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion on April 26, 1986.
Also today, Netflix has set a March 22nd premiere for “Delhi Crime,” a seven-part Indian crime drama series about the aftermath of the Delhi gang rape case that happened in 2012 in India. The horrendous incident started widespread national protests by the citizens who were angered by the government’s lack of concern for the security of women.
