The Walking Dead: The New Series
Non-binary actor Nico Tortorella (“The Following,” “Younger”) has been cast in the upcoming second spin-off of “The Walking Dead” on AMC. The third series in the franchise overall will focus on the first generation of kids to come of age during the zombie apocalypse. Tortorella plays Felix, an honorable man of his word who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance. Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Annet Mahendru and Aliyah Royale co-star. Madam C.J. Walker
Tiffany Haddish, Blair Underwood, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris and Kevin Carroll have been cast in the forthcoming Netflix four-part limited series “Madam CJ Walker” which deals with the black hair care pioneer and mogul. LeBron James and Octavia Spencer produce the series with Spencer playing the titular role of Walker who overcame hostile turn-of-the-century America, rivalries, tumultuous marriages and family challenges to become America’s first black, self-made female millionaire. Our Kind of People
FOX is redeveloping the drama series “Our Kind of People” with Lee Daniels and Karin Gist. Gist will now serve as writer and executive producer. The project is inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s non-fiction novel “Our Kind of People”.
The story follows single mom Angela Vaughn, who risks it all and moves her family to Martha’s Vineyard with hopes of taking her natural hair care line to the next level by infiltrating the African American elite in Oak Bluffs. Netflix’s Frank Miller-inspired Arthurian legend series “Cursed” has added Bella Dayne (“Humans”) to its cast alongside Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgard, Peter Mullan and Lily Newmark. Dayne will play Red Spear, a regal and ruthless viking captain loyal to no one. She and her crew raid villages along the coast of Britain until a Fey stowaway boards her ship and entangles their fates. [Source: Deadline]
The CW has released the extended trailer for their upcoming “Riverdale” spin-off series “Katy Keene” which follows four twenty-something friends – fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene, singer/songwriter Josie McCoy, performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger, and ‘It Girl’ Pepper Smith – who are trying make to make their dreams come true in New York City. Co-creator Michael Grassi has also confirmed that there is a possibility for a crossover in the future with “Riverdale”. The series premieres this Fall.
The Baby-Sitters Club
Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein have been cast in the upcoming live-action series reboot of “The Baby-Sitters Club” at Netflix. Silverstone will play Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the mother of Kristy Thomas and love interest of Watson Brewer (Feuerstein). Based on the iconic Ann M. Martin book series, the story follows four characters who will all return to the small-town setting of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. [Source: THR]
