Netflix has set a September 20th premiere date for the stripped-down, cat-and-mouse police interrogation drama “Criminal” which boasts David Tennant, Hayley Atwell and others amongst the cast. George Kay (“Killing Eve”) and Jim Field Smith (“The Wrong Mans”) are showrunners on the project which takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite. TV show super-producer Ryan Murphy signed a massive exclusive deal with Netflix a while back and now, many months later, the streaming service is finally readying the first effort of that deal with the series “The Politician” which released some first-look images today. Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, and Zoey Deutch amongst others star in the series which will debut sometime later this year.
Netflix has renewed the comedy series “Mr. Iglesias” a second season. Comedian Gabriel Iglesias stars as a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater. He takes on teaching gifted but misfit kids to not only save them from being ‘counselled out’ by a bully bureaucrat Assistant Principal (Oscar Nunez), but also to help them unlock their full potential. A couple of new TV promos are out today. The first two are for the second season of “Mayans MC,” the new clip teasing the sibling rivalry between brothers EZ Reyes (J.D. Pardo) and Angel Reyes (Clayton Cardenas). That show returns September 3rd. The other is for FOX’s serial killer drama “Prodigal Son” in which Tom Payne plays a criminal psychologist who is an expert profiler because his dad (Michael Sheen) is an imprisoned serial killer. That series premieres September 23rd.
