HBO has set an October 21st premiere date for its four-part “Catherine the Great” limited series starring Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke. The story is set against the politically tumultuous and sexually charged court of Russian empress Catherine the Great (Mirren) who wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century and engaged in a passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (Clarke). Netflix has renewed its Spanish teen crime drama-thriller hit “Elite” for a third season, the order coming ahead of the launch of the second season worldwide on the service on September 6th. The first season was watched by over twenty million household accounts in its first month of release, according to Netflix, making it one of the biggest global drama series plays ever coming out of Spain. The Haunting of Bly Manor
“The Haunting of Hill House” actor Henry Thomas will return for Mike Flanagan’s follow-up series “The Haunting of Bly Manor” which returns in 2020. The new story with all new characters will be based on Henry James’ 1898 horror novella “The Turn of the Screw” and Thomas marks the third returnee for the new season following Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Victoria Pedretti. Naomie Harris and John Dagleish have been cast in the six episode HBO-Sky Studios co-production “The Third Day” with Marc Munden and Philippa Lowthorpe set to direct three episodes each. The series will air in 2020 on HBO in the U.S. and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW TV in the U.K. and Ireland

Jude Law plays Sam, a man drawn to a mysterious island off the British coast where he encounters a group of islanders set on preserving their traditions at any cost. Beau Garrett (“Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce”) is set to star opposite Katherine Heigl in the drama series “Firefly Lane” at Netflix and based on the novel by Kristin Hannah. Garrett plays Cloud, a charismatic and fun-loving single mom raising her teenage daughter Tully (Heigl) in the 1970s.

Maggie Friedman serves as showrunner in this sweeping story of two inseparable best friends and their enduring, complicated bond, spanning four tumultuous decades. The series follows the story of Tully (Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke), two unlikely best friends who meet as young girls and become inseparable for nearly 30 years, until a tragedy breaks them apart.
