Beloved character actor Kurtwood Smith has scored a major recurring role on the second season of ABC’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter”. The actor will reunite with his “Resurrection” showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas on the Marvel drama.
Smith will play Vernon Masters, a veteran of the War Department with a keen understanding of how to work the system. “Agent Carter” is slated to return in January. [Source: The Live Feed]
ABC has cancelled both its summer dramas “The Astronaut Wives Club” and “The Whispers” after one season each. “Whispers” was a solid rater with DVR usage and efforts were made to reportedly bring it back in some capacity, but ultimately it was decided against. [Source: THR]
“Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” writer Heather Mitchell is slated to pen the script and executive produce “Still Star-Crossed,” a TV series sequel to Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” for ABC. Shonda Rhimes, Michael R. Goldstein and Betsy Beers would also executive produce. The drama follows the conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues in the wake of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Showtime is developing the half-hour dramedy “King Liz” based on the play of the same name by Latina playwright Fernanda Coppel. The story follows an aggressive female sports agent and the contentious relationship she has with her ambitious assistant. She also has to sign a Brooklyn-raised high school basketball phenomenon in order to take over the agency run by her soon to retire mentor. [Source: Deadline]
Showtime has released a trailer for the upcoming sixth season of “Shameless” which returns to the network on January 10th. William H.
