Green Arrow and the Canaries
Katherine McNamara has confirmed that production has officially begun on the backdoor pilot for “Green Arrow & the Canaries,” The CW‘s proposed “Arrow” spinoff. Said backdoor pilot is set to be featured in the final season of “Arrow”.

McNamara will star as Mia Smoak, the only daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, alongside Katie Cassidy Rodgers and Juliana Harkavy. “Arrow” showrunner Beth Schwartz will co-write the episode with “Arrow” co-creator Marc Guggenheim and Jill Blankenship & Oscar Balderrama. [Source: Twitter]

Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas
Bret McKenzie (“Flight of the Conchords”) has signed on to pen the script and write the music for a remake of the 1977 Jim Henson Company TV special “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas”. McKenzie also has the option to direct the new adaptation.

Based on the children’s book of the same name by Russell Hoban, the story follows a poor otter family who risks everything for the chance to win the cash prize of a talent contest for Christmas, but a decision has not yet been made. Jim Henson Company, Pacific Electric Picture Company and Snoot Entertainment will produce. [Source: Variety]

The Flight Attendant
Rosie Perez has scored a key series regular role alongside Kaley Cuoco in HBO Max’s thriller drama series “The Flight Attendant”. Cuoco plays a flight attendant who wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man – and no idea what happened.

Perez will play Megan, Cassie’s friend and perfectionist flight team lead, who is bad at keeping other people’s secrets but great at keeping her own. Michiel Huisman, Sonoya Mizuno and Colin Woodell co-star in the eight-episode Warner Horizon Scripted Television series based on Chris Bohjalian’s novel. [Source: Deadline]

Julia Garner (“Ozark”) is in early talks to play New York con artist Anna Delvey in Shonda Rhimes’ first series for Netflix. The story is based on Jessica Pressler‘s New York Magazine article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” with Rhimes attached to write.

Delvey, aka Anna Sorokin, posed as a wealthy German heiress to gain access to New York’s high society, which enabled her to con numerous people and financial institutions into funding her glamorous lifestyle. She lived in boutique hotels, dined at expensive restaurants, and wore designer clothes, but the poor Russian immigrant who falsified bank records and never intended to pay her substantial bills. Melanie Lynskey (“Castle Rock,” “Castle Rock”) has been cast in one of the main roles in Showtime ensemble drama pilot “Yellowjackets” which begins shooting in Los Angeles later this year. The story follows a team of talented high school girls soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness.

The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later. Lynskey will play Shauna Sheridan who is on a mission to reclaim her life while doing everything in her power to keep her darkest secrets safe. [Source: Variety]
