Turturro Helms Souls of Naples

John Turturro will direct a film version of Edoardo de Filippo’s Off Broadway play “Souls of Naples” says Variety.

The Italian classic is set in 1946 Naples, where penniless protag Pasquale and his young wife move into a haunted palazzo, rent free, as a scheming landlord seeks to give his estate an air of normality and lure some paying tenants.

Turturro is penning the script for a mixed American and Italian cast, and will shoot the English-language film in Naples next year.
