Turner, Marsden, Shipp On “X-Men” Casting

Last week saw the news that Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp and Tye Sheridan are set to play younger incarnations of Jean Grey, Storm and Cyclops respectively in Bryan Singer’s upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse”.

In the wake of that announcement, Turner has spoken with Access Hollywood about how she learned the news:

“I was getting out of the car to walk in to the audition. And then my agent started ringing and she was like ‘Have you heard the news?’ ‘No, what news?’ Then she was like ‘Check your Twitter’. So then I checked it and… I was just getting like, ‘Congratulations Jean Grey.’ Then I just started crying and I messed up the whole audition because I was just like, ‘I can’t speak!’.”

Turner also revealed that she is “really trying to emulate” Famke Janssen’s portrayal of Jean Grey in the previous X-Men movies as that actress “did such a great job and I just hope I do justice to this incredible character.”

The original Cyclops himself, actor James Marsden, has spoken with Hitfix about the casting of Sheridan as the younger version of his character. Marsden says:

“I think he’s a wonderfully talented actor who blew me away in ‘Mud.’ I’ve never seen a kid that young be that present and that powerful. So I think he’s a perfect fit, and I congratulate him.”

Finally, young Storm Alexandra Shipp posted a video on Instagram showing off her preparation for her role in the project which begins shooting in Montreal in April:
