HBO has made it official – “True Detective” will return for a third season and it has set its directors – creator Nic Pizzolatto and “Green Room” helmer Jeremy Saulnier.
Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will lead the cast of the next installment tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. No production or air date has yet been set.
Pizzolatto is the sole writer of the series, with the exception of episode 4 which he co-wrote with “Deadwood” creator David Milch.
Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros, and Richard Brown will executive produce.
