The first episode of the second season of “True Detective” aired last night and reaction has been quite varied. In the wake of that premiere, HBO has offered up a new featurette which talks with the show’s stars and exec producer Scott Stephens.
Certainly more self-serious and in some ways bleaker than the first season’s premiere, the original’s sweat soaked and trippy two-hander has shifted the focus to a more familiar neo-noir about four damaged and world-weary characters with their own psychological and psychosexual hangups.
Reviewers who’ve seen the first three episodes still aren’t ready to make the call on the new season just yet. The show is one noted for being a slow builder so will take several episodes to get truly going. The eight episode run continues on Sunday.
