“Trolls,” “Sky High” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” director Mike Mitchell has been tapped to take the helm of the “The Lego Movie” sequel at Warner Bros. Animation. Mitchell replaces Rob Schrab on the film who departed due to creative differences.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who penned and directed the first film, wrote the first draft of the script for the sequel with Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Matt Fogel working on subsequent drafts.
Lord, Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee will produce and the film is currently slated for a February 8th 2019 release. The first film grossed nearly $470 million worldwide in 2014.
Finally, USA Today has posted the first still from the animated feature “LEGO Ninjago” currently in the works. The photo comes ahead of a new announcement or trailer to go online this weekend.
