Ruben Fleischer (“Zombieland”), Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) and Jose Padilha (“Elite Squad”) have emerged as the lead candidates to direct “Tales from the Gangster Squad” at Warner Bros. Pictures reports The Los Angeles Times.
Based on a series of LA Times articles, the true story tale follows a secret “off the record” police task force in the 1940 who pursued high-profile gangster Meyer Harris “Mickey” Cohen, a member of the so-called “Jewish Mafia”.
Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick will produce the film and have met with all three candidates, though no formal offers have been handed out yet. Ben Affleck was in the running a few months ago, no word if that’s still the case.
Former LA cop and novelist Will Beall penned the script for the action feature already being labelled “”The Untouchables” on the streets of L.A.”.
