With a bountiful crop of indie films dominating the awards race this year, it appears major studio films could be essentially locked out altogether from the big awards come Oscar time.
Paramount Pictures has raised some eyebrows today though with the submission of Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction” for awards consideration. That “Transformers” is going for tech and sound nominations isn’t a shock, the franchise has a good track record on that front.
No, the surprise is the film has been included on the studio’s shortlist of films which its submitting for consideration in the biggest categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay. Paramount is also submitting “Interstellar” and “Noah” for consideration.
Other studio films being pushed for consideration include the likes of “Gone Girl,” “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Big Hero 6,’ “Into the Woods,” “Get On Up,” “Unbroken,” and “The Fault in Our Stars”.
