Following in the footsteps of “Gone Girl,” another best-selling mystery thriller novel with word ‘Girl’ in the title is getting a film adaptation with the trailer for Tate Taylor’s “The Girl on the Train” dropping today ahead of its October 7th release.
Emily Blunt leads an excellent cast that includes Luke Evans, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Rebecca Ferguson, Edgar Ramirez and Allison Janney. The story is based on Paula Hawkins’ novel about an alcoholic woman who becomes embroiled in the disappearance of a young woman that her ex-husband employed.
What starts out sounding like a modern spin on Agatha Christie’s “4:50 from Paddington” becomes something else – specifically another of those mystery dramas following an unreliable narrator who may be responsible for the murder in question. Unlike ‘Gone’ though, this one isn’t expected to take a left turn descent into lurid camp in its final act.
