Samuel Goldwyn Films has released the trailer for the upcoming sci-fi tale “Paradise Hills” which screened at Sundance earlier this year and seems to be borrowing tropes from various films of the genre from “The Stepford Wives” to “The Prisoner” to “The Thirteenth Floor”.
On an isolated island, Uma (Emma Roberts) wakes up to find herself at a facility where high-class families send their daughters to become perfect versions of themselves and run by the mysterious Duchess (Milla Jovovich).
Calibrated treatments including etiquette classes, vocal lessons, beauty treatments, gymnastics, etc. all work to resolve all physical and emotional shortcomings within two months. The outspoken Uma finds solace and friendship in other residents, but soon realizes that lurking behind all this beauty is a sinister secret.
Danielle McDonald (“Patti Cake$”), Awkwafina (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Jeremy Irvine (“War Horse”) and Eiza Gonzalez (“Baby Driver”) co-star in the film which hails from filmmaker Alice Waddington and co-writer Nacho Vigalondo (“Colossal,” “Timecrimes”). The film hits both cinema and digital on November 1st.
