Netflix has been widely crowing and showing off much of their Fall slate of original films at festivals or online including the Coens’ “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” David McKenzie’s “Outlaw King,” Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma” and more.
One film however that has remained completely under wraps is “The Night Manager” and “After the Wedding” helmer Susanne Bier’s new sci-fi thriller “Bird Box”. That finally changed today with the release of the first poster and trailer.
Boasting a superb cast including Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson, John Malkovich, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Tom Hollander and BD Wong, the film was penned by Eric Heisserer (“Arrival”) and is based on the debut novel by Josh Malerman.
The story begins when the world’s population is decimated due to entities that if one sees them, that person will then take their own life. One woman must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary – a perilous two-day journey they will have to do blindfolded in order to survive.
The film will premiere at AFI in November and then hit select cinemas and Netflix on December 21st.
