The first trailer has arrived for filmmaker Richard Linklater’s next effort “Last Flag Flying” ahead of its premiere as the opening night gala of the New York Film Festival.
is too rarely in the conversation about great American directors. He’s been respected since he debuted with “Slacker,” but many of his independent films were too experimental to find audiences, while some of his Hollywood efforts were too broad for critics. Yet who can point to a stronger last three films than Linklater?
Following on from his successes in recent years like “Boyhood,” “Before Midnight” and “Everybody Wants Some,” the director returns with this tale of three aging Vietnam-era Navy vets (Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne) who reunite to perform a sacred task: the proper burial of Doc’s only child killed in the early days of the Iraqi Invasion.
The film also serves as a ‘spiritual sequel’ to Hal Ashby’s “The Last Detail”. The film will be released in cinemas through Amazon Studios on November 3rd.
