Tilda Swinton and her daughter Honor Swinton Byrne team up on screen for Joanna Hogg’s “The Souvenir” which launched at Sundance last month to rave reviews and won the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Award. A24 is releasing the film States-side and has now unveiled the film’s trailer.
Byrne plays a shy but ambitious film student who begins to find her voice as an artist while navigating a turbulent courtship with a charismatic but untrustworthy man (Tom Burke).
She defies a protective mother (Tilda Swinton) and concerned friends as she slips deeper and deeper into an intense, emotionally fraught relationship that could destroy her dreams. Richard Ayoade also stars and Martin Scorsese executive produces.
The film is reported to be the first of a potential two-part story so should it succeed in its release later this year, that will likely pop up shortly after.
