Many lambast Netflix for their original films, and to be fair it’s not unfounded – for every “Mudbound” or “Beasts of No Nation” there’s seemingly a dozen Adam Sandler movies or uninspired teen dramas.
That may change this Fall with the streaming giant having a ten-film slate that would be the envy of many arthouse distributors including new films from the Coens, Alfonso Cuaron, Paul Greengrass, Gareth Evans.
We saw one of them teased yesterday with the first trailer for David MacKenzie’s “Outlaw King,” and today comes the trailer for “Blue Ruin” and “Green Room” director Jeremy Saulnier’s new thriller “Hold the Dark”.
Macon Blair penned the film in which Jeffrey Wright plays a wolf expert who heads to northern Alaska to track down the wolves who killed a young boy. A strange and dangerous relationship develops between him and the boy’s mother (Riley Keough), and then things explode when the husband (Alexander Skarsgard) returns home and turns violent.
James Badge Dale also stars in the film which premieres next month at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of a Netflix release on September 28th.
