The critics in France were hostile when it hit the Cannes Film Festival, but acclaimed filmmaker Xavier Dolan had the last laugh when his family drama “It’s Only The End Of The World” walked off with the Jury Prize and Ecumenical Jury Prize.
The film subsequently played at the Sydney Film Festival where it drew a whole range of reactions, but most seemed much more appreciative of the young French-Canadian auteur’s work. Today, the first trailer for the film has arrived.
Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye, and Gaspard Ulliel all star in the film about a gay writer who returns to see his family after a twelve-year absence with some heavy news to share. Over the course of an afternoon, fits and feuds unfold with loneliness and doubt all creeping in.
No U.S. distributor has picked up the film yet, but it will open in Quebec on September 21st.
