Netflix has premiered the first trailer for their new documentary “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond” which takes a closer look at Jim Carrey’s four month stint portraying famed and complicated comedian Andy Kaufman for the 1999 biopic “Man on the Moon”.
Milos Forman cast Carrey to play cult comedian Kaufman in his film, leading to an intensely bizarre film production in which Carrey never broke character. He thoroughly ‘became’ Andy and, alternately, Kaufman’s obnoxious lounge singer alter ego Tony Clifton.
Carrey earned critical acclaim and a Golden Globe for the performance, but many of the production’s most Kaufmanesque moments played out behind the scenes and were captured on video by Andy’s former girlfriend, Lynne Margulies and former writing partner, Bob Zmuda.
Now, eighteen years later, Carrey looks back at the resulting footage and his experience. “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond” debuts globally on Netflix on November 17th.
